How drop testosterone levels cause menopause in men

The one major aspect that cause menopause is a reduction of the hormone testosterone to levels that are below normal. The range of the normal level of testosterone that is defined for men is fairly wide and therefore there are some men with naturally high levels of testosterone who never really start showing any signs of male menopause despite the fact that their testosterone levels are actually dropping each year. While it is widely known that lower levels of testosterone can cause menopause, there are various other factors that can actually trigger the decline in testosterone levels in males. It is believed that certain illnesses, depression, obesity and dementia can also cause menopause by actually sparking off the decline phase. Testosterone production is also affected by heart and lung diseases that therefore are also known to activate the downward spiral in terms of testosterone levels. These conditions therefore are also considered to cause menopause indirectly. While cancer or other autoimmune diseases do not cause a male menopause, these conditions are known to increase the risk of a male menopause to a larger extent. Even though these cause and effect relationships have been observed there is no clinical evidence as yet about the relationship between cancer, autoimmune diseases, heart and lung diseases and also depression. In fact there seems to be a circular relationship between depression and male menopause since depression is also a symptom of male menopause. It is also felt that these conditions can initiate the process of menopause and therefore bring about an early male menopause.

Irrespective of the aspects that cause menopause the symptoms that a male menopause exhibits are similar. While the aspects that cause menopause do not cause an early menopause, some believe that the extent of severity of the symptoms may differ based on the specific aspects that cause menopause in the first place.

When aspects like depression cause menopause it is evident that the psychological symptoms of menopause shall be highlighted during the menopause phase. Menopause caused due to a bad phase of event in life can aggravate these symptoms further. Sometimes psychotherapy becomes a must in these cases, even though the underlying issue is low testosterone levels.

Whether the menopause is an early menopause or a late one, the act remains that menopause symptoms need to be identified and addressed. The specific aspects that cause menopause in reality are not so important to understand since the symptoms and low levels of testosterone are the aspects that need to be addressed.
